Lyme disease is an illness caused by some Borrelia species of bacteria, usually spread through the bite of certain types of ticks. Not all ticks carry this bacteria, though they may carry many other infections causing illness. Diagnosis is difficult since the symptoms are changeable, and may be caused by more than one infection. The medical community does not agree upon testing and diagnosis, as most testing is indirect, not looking for the bacteria itself. This divides the medical community and often leaves individuals confused and seeking an answer to their debilitating symptoms.
